I had a hard time with the lighting but I finaly got it to my satisfaction by adding two spots to light the faces on the far side of the ring. |

Didn't you try the new P6 point light? I think you got the correct efect but maybe the point light inside the sphere (not casting shadow) would be the natural choice.
I like the way you pose them so evenly!!!
