I don't think this version is nearly as interesting as the first one. The lighting here minimizes the impact of the best thing going for the scene, which is the stairs/arch/ground/bluff setting. I count at least four and maybe five lights here, looks like four spots and one infinite overhead; since this is an outdoor scene, lighting would never really be this random and diffused unless maybe the whole thing is taking place directly in front of a lake, with lots of big rocks around the shoreline, at sunset/sunrise. The lighting in this one also tends to wash-out the colors in the scene overall, compared to the first version in which at least some parts of the image were very vivid and interesting to look at in terms of color and luminance.
It's an interesting experiment nonetheless. I think a version better than either would be if you snipped out the sky, archer on the stairs, hero, heroine, and horse from this image and pasted it over top of the first image, but that's just my opinion.
Overall, compositionally it's good in regard to the placement of the elements and sense of action.
