Remember all those files you've downloaded over the years, characters, clothing, props, poses, textures, etc.? And for one reason or other you have a system crash and lose all of it so you figure you will just download those items again but to your horror you find that the site and or the items no longer exist. There is still a way to access these lost files! It is not full proof and it is not gauranteed but I personally have recovered lost files from some lost sites. <br /> <br /> Before you ask, yes this is legal since these items were previously available to begin with. <br /> <br /> Here is my method: <br /> <br /> Go to the Internet Archive website and use the <a href="http://www.archive.org/web/web.php"><span style="color: red;"><b>WAYBACK MACHINE</b></span></a>. This is quoted from the site itself, <br /> <br /> <i><b><span style="color: blue;">"The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format."</span></b></i> <br /> <br /> If you want to visit a site that hasn't been around for a few years just type in the old address in the Wayback Machine address box and it will give you a list of links with copies of the old site. Sometimes the old files are still on these copied sites which means you can still download old items! Now it's BAD News/GOOD news time. BAD news is that 9 times out of 10 the zip file you downloaded will be corrupt and assumed to be unuseable. GOOD news, now here is the trick, you need to download a utility called <span style="color: #f20000;">[Link removed by Tormie: commercial product].</span> This little tool can usually repair most corrupt or damaged zip files. I have personally been able to restore alot of old files this way. <br /> <br /> This is just another alternative for those wanting to track down old files to use for their own personal use but it will also allow you to retrieve information such as the author's e-mail for contact purposes. Well, I hope this is not a change in your attitude, but the tool that you advertised is a commercial product (it costs about 29 bucks) and you should know how we like freebies only <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_snooty.gif" alt="" /> , so I had to remove the link. <br /> <br /> I'm seriously doubtful about this post: using the wayback machine, as far as I know, it is not possible to do what you said, but maybe I'm wrong and you can write some links with those zip files... Hey Tormie, I guess it has been a while. Sorry about that link, I'll bet with a little searching I could probably find a freeware alternative. <br /> <br /> It is possible to retrieve lost files from old pages. But not all archived pages have all of their files intact, some do some don't. They may have missing images, zips, etc. So like I said before it's never a guarantee. It's kind of like treasure hunting. <br /> <br /> The Wayback Machine has Posette Forever archived back to February 27, 2004. I'll bet if we all dusted off those CD's of accumulated freebies that we have been collecting over the years we would probably find quite a treasure. I know that I probably have a lot of free items that are hard to find still in my collection of downloads. How possible would it be to start a lost and found section Tormie?

Would be a lot of read me files out there and a lot of copyrights to go threw. In the past sometimes it worked, a lot of times not. After a while one become bored but personally I start again asking when I'm in the mood.

And, sadly inadequate, contradictory, incoherent or simply *NO* ReadMe file... <br /> <br /> Sad part is I've come to recognise their styles, begun to learn work-arounds and how to fix the basic gaffes with CR2Edit... <br /> <br /> Hmm, my archive has just yielded a bunch of impossibly cute 'Race Queen' costumes by 'teppan'. Sadly, like JoatMon, teppan has dropped off the wwweb. Worse, teppan did NOT add read-me files. I've just about eliminated conformance to Posette variants and morphs, so perhaps they're for MayaDoll, whom I'll try next... <br /> <br /> I suppose I could rip the OBJ from their CR2/PP2, wiggle them in Anim8tor and re-import them... <br /> <br /> D'uh, I'm still reading through my notes and downloaded tuts, so the joys of grouping, JointParameters etc are not for today !!
