[i:e9b806ff1a]Where can I find insiprations for a render?

Where do you get the ideas for your pictures from?[/i:e9b806ff1a]

It is probable that we have all been asked these and other similar questions. I am sure that many of us have also asked these questions, or at least wondered about them from time to time.

No matter how creative and prolific, every artist will at times be in need of a fresh idea. Therefore, I thought that this thread could be a place and to share and find the answers to these questions, and maybe find or share a fresh idea or two.

Pangor

Well Pangor, I work a lot, and usually don't have much time to do great works, I usually do some small test of ideas I have and how to make better something, but never save them, so I don't post much pictures in the album, but when something come to my mind then I spend hours trying to make it the way I see it, this weekend listenig some of my music came to my mind to do some renders of my favorite music, hope to get something good from it (I have a wide taste in music, from the 80's pop of local bands to the emotional music of German Gustav Mahler), sometime ago I did some renders to print and put in my little daughter bedroom bassed on things she told me (a 2 and half year old girl imagination is a wonderful source of funny and strange things)

You are right Rayera, as adults we have been so conditioned to how things are as a result, many of us end up thaking what our imagination provides us and run it through a filter of reason and stoic dogma. A child not yet so conditioned can be a wonderful source of new ideas if we take the time to listen to them. Music is another great source of inspiration, a beautiful example of a song inspired picture that comes to mind at the moment is, [i:0858173ed5]What I Am[/i:0858173ed5] by guiltypleasures.

Pangor

Post subject: Re: Sources of Inspiration
A few days ago, I was asked for some ideas to use to creates some pictures. The question was asked by an already skilled developing artist, who I also think of as a nice person. In my answer I also provided some ideas of where someone can look to seek inspirations.

The following is an expansion of an excerpt derived from my answer to this artist's question:

Become an observer of life. Look at what is around you and let the images form.

Think of David Lean's advice to Omar Sherif during the filming of [i:16fe6aaf39]Dr. Zhivago[/i:16fe6aaf39]. Paraphrasing from memory, "We can not have you going around reading poetry to show that you are a poet. Instead, stand still and watch the others performing the dramas of the story. You will be seen as a poet watching and feeling the drama. The audience will then accept you as a poet with deep feelings."

We need to adapt Mr. Lean's advice. To be an artist live your life, at the same time though, be an observer. Try to see your life from a third person perspective. When you are at a cafe, enjoy your meal, enjoy the moment and still observe all the little scenes, comedies, and dramas that are happenings all around you. Observe the world and feel it, then let that feeling find expression and let the images form in your mind.

Even before the images are fully formed, start playing with variations on the theme as soon as you feel the inspiration. Not everytime but often enough, the work can take on a life of its own and before you know it, the picture is all but finished, leaving you wondering where the image came from.

Use brainstorming and idle doodling, to your benefit. The urge to just play with some 3d models can sometime become something worthy of being called art. Random connections of sepperate ideas and sometime meld together into an interesting pattern. An example of what I am referring to is the process by which [i:16fe6aaf39]"After the Evening"[/i:16fe6aaf39] was created. Rather than reposting the information here, I will am including it by reference, see the thread "The Joke that became [i:16fe6aaf39]'After the Evening'[/i:16fe6aaf39]".

Think of the movies, television, radio dramas, and books that you have loved. Think of a scene from a story that really touches your soul and create an image or a series of images to express your vision of the work. The Valentine exhibition provides us with a prime example of what I am referring to here.

After Tormentor announced the Valentine exhibition, I started thinking of what stories I have seen, heard, or read that presented an image of true love. I thought of several stories, but no image formed so I moved on. I found myself thinking of the Christmas story [i:16fe6aaf39]"Gift of the Magi"[/i:16fe6aaf39]. I started to imagine how to portray it my way and so the [i:16fe6aaf39]"Magi Gifts"[/i:16fe6aaf39] (parts 1 1a 2 e) series was born. After fishing that series, there was still time before the 14'th, and found myself starting to think in cynical frame of mind. Even before the exhibition, I had alread descided that I would like to do a work based on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, but I knew that I didn't have enough time left before the 14th so I thought that I would move on to a different story that would be more easy to portray. The combination of cynicism, mythology, and love came together and resulted in the two pictures of [i:16fe6aaf39]"Narcissus in Love"[/i:16fe6aaf39] (complete and detail)

In all field of study and arts we have centuries and even millenia of past experience to draw upon. It has been said, "If I see farther, it is because I stand on the sholders of giants". We the sholder of all current and past artists both obscure and true giants of art to draw upon for our inspirations.

So view the art of others and say to yourself how would I have addressed that subject? If it ispires something in you, redo it your way. Don't do a blatent copy of existing art, but rather think to yourself, which part of the original that you liked and disliked, then create your own work that is clearly your own work executed in your style that addresses the theme of the orginal. Of course, give credit where credit is due for the original work that inspired your creation.

If you write poetry or stories, try to express them in your visual arts as well.

Also remember to not force your art into existance. If you are becoming fustrated as you try and try to create something and are making no more progress than a locomotive with a heavy consist and without sand while on a steep grade. Take a break, work on something else for a while. Or walk away and do something unrelated with art all together. When you are fresh again you may be able to produce again.
For this I will cite another example from the production of [i:16fe6aaf39]Dr. Zhivago[/i:16fe6aaf39]. The composer was working on the love theme, one theme after another was written and rejected. Finaly Mr. Lean told him to go on a short vactaion with his lady and to forget about music. According to the version I head about that incident, when he returned to work, the wonderful love theme for that film almost wrote itself.

Pangor

I am actually inspired by love... you see... recently i have fallen in love ... and the guy, Emi, is my source of inspiration. Thats why my gallery on Renderosity (recently) is all romance Before I met him... anything would inspire me... like a song i would hear would put a picture into my mind and i couldnt get it out until i drew it... or when i was reading or writing... or even just thinking about something... most of the time i would draw people for the stories that i write... but when i met Emi... all i could think about was him and how i loved him... and so all of my artwork would come out romantic... just to hear his voice inspires me because he makes my heart light up... even if i have had the worst of days... like today actually... So he is my inspiration... Bye everyone! *hugs* ~*~K~*~

First let me say welcome to you Angel, nice to meet you and I hope you find our place a nice place to visit often and also to post in our gallery and our forums

Pangor, I also want to thank you about my picture you mentioned above

As to your question, I guess I get my inspiration for all kinds of things. Books ( I like to read a lot of fiction esp Vampire and Horror type books) Movies are another great inspiration for me (New one comming out called "Sin City" that I'm sure is going to give me a lot of inspiration just looking at the trailors on it) TV gives me some as well. I think the best inspiation I get though is looking at other's work, the gallery here, on other sites they all give me inspiration as well as put me in awe of how good others work is and keeps me striving to improve on mine. Another point I keep in mind is just to have fun and enjoy what I'm doing..as when I stop enjoying it, or if it becomes work to me, I will soon stop doing it and move onto something else. I don't want to move on, so it must still be fun

Hello and welcome to PF, Angel.

GP, you are welcome, thinking of music to visual art expression, your picture [i:55329b9cd4]What I Am[/i:55329b9cd4] came to my mind as the perfect example.

There is a famous painting by one of the great masters of a couple centruies ago, that I have imagined redoing with Poser/Bryce. I intend to go into detail about the reason for that inspiration latter on, once I have the picture ready for posting. For the momenet though, I will say this, there is a link between that picture and the [i:55329b9cd4]"Venus de Milo"[/i:55329b9cd4] incident that I mentioned the other day in the "It's NOT for porn!" thread.

Pangor

Welcome to Posetteforever Angel ! I hope you'll have fun here !!

About the topic, thank you for your explanation Pangor ! My personal source of inspiration is everyday life in my usual Posy's pictures. For my old "knight" serie I was inspired from the dark, innovative humor of an italian comic writer, Bonvi, and his "Sturmtruppen" serie (I have to call the knight from his endless vacance one of these days ). Bonvi now is dead but his originality is a milestone in the italian comics production. I also admire a lot south american comics writers like Jimenez. Most of them are from Argentina.

WELCOME ANGEL!!! I'm glag to see someone at my age here interested in 3D art.
About the topic: music is truly a big source of inspiration. I agree with Pangor and his advices. I'm most of the time ispirated by my so-called "novels" and "books" witch I never finish and sometimes even by phrases. There is one particular "book" written by me ( If I don't like something I wrote I burn it later , so most of this writing is already burned : ) about the perfect country , the price all must pay for its existence and how in the end like all great ancient civilizations this one fall in decadence. It's not even the writing but a term I invited witch inspires me " DFA" or Derima Fatora Anterina in sellen (you know about the "sellen language" ) witch means "The newest era" or " The era of the extremes". The begining of DFA is an apocalypse caused by several wars and lots of atom bombs. When I'm thinking or writing about "the essence of DFA" or about "the moral of DFA" there are always several images witch strike in my mind and they're always diffrent. Unfortunately I can't make a 3d image not even a paintings of all. I call this "apocaliptical aesthetics" it looks more biblical than modern. Some example of it is "In the end" http://posetteforever.com/showphoto...&cat=999&page=1 , http://posetteforever.com/showphoto...&cat=999&page=2 the first and the second version also some old works witch are too bad to show them. I'm always trying to make a 3d video clip and alraedy have several attemps but of course I never finish the video. I also enjoy making covers of my "books" (although
there are no books) like these of " Rights of the international finance capital" (What a title for a modern fairy tale! ) and "The disdrution factory" (discrution is some kind of hi-tech poison). I'm thinking to upload them in the album when I find the pics. Another (bad) source of inspiration is the everyday life and some idiotic comments made by our imfamous politicians but the result is almost some propaganda-like posters. I'm also keen on making images with choirs with ancient greek-like clothes singing in latin.(Unfortunately I don't know latin ). The last attempt to make a picture illustrating a singing choir was a pic called "Proletarian chorus" witch had to remind Russia of the 50's years of XX century but I get tired to model all the buildings and search for clothes from the 50's and making textures. ( Two months!!! ) There is also another specifical kind of source of inspiration related to the language I'm invening I'm trying to show how a particular word like "votrimia" for exemple looks like. The result of all this is some surrealistic don't-know-what sometimes with human figures. And of course pain is a huge source of inspiration but not very desirable. I mean mental pain. Thank you for the link TdaC ! It would be very useful. I like a lot the young women portrait for the 19th century . Exspecially the in profile. It's somehow satisfactory to know that in the past women with greek and roman noses were considered beautiful exspecially if you have a such a nose. :

In case anyone is still wondering, "facce de culo" is a slightly shortened version of a common saying. A literal word for word translation into english will loose too much of its meaning. However a rougher tranlation will preserve the spirit of the saying, so, it means "he (or she) has a face like his (or her) read end. The saying is used to say that someone is two faced and/or is shameless lacking of any decency.

Pangor

It's right pangor "faccia da culo" is :"he (or she) has a face like his (or her) read end"
Obviously in the italian slang it has a subtly different meaning, the exact translation of "he (or she) has a face like his (or her) read end" should be "faccia di culo" ("di"="of") the "da" generally means "for": for example "fucile da caccia" means "gun for hunting" so "faccia da culo" is something like "face (to use) for a rear end" Another interesting slang italian word for explaining better that phrase is "carta da culo" that stands for "toilet paper", "paper for the rear end" ("carta igienica" in a correct language). So if you come here in Italy now you know all that you need: go to the first toilet and ask for some "carta da culo"... "and please, FAST! FACCIA DA CULO !" so you'll soon try the lackings of our sanitary system in a hospital...

Here in Argentina, we use a lot of expressions derived from italian, (I don't need to translate it in spanish is writen allmost the same, we say "cara de culo") and we use it when somebody is angry or a bad tempered person, enyway here this expresion and the word culo is not considered such a bad word and no Program or radio TV will be censored for using it besides for refering to the "rear end" of the babies we use the word "culito" mean "little rear end" and example when a man have a very good shaved face we say "suave como culito de bebe" soft as little rear end of a baby, and that have a quite diferent meaning than "Cara de culo"

Tormentor you made me remember my childhood Hero, a character from a comic book called Nippur from Lagash, such a fantastic story that when I was at the hischool we studied it in the Spanish literature class (I learned that commics are a literature genre), I was so surprised that my teacher, a very smart and cleaver woman, that was speaking us about Don Quijote de la Mancha, La Celestina, Gutavo Adolfo Becker, (some of the world masterpieces) took the book #2 of the Nippur de Lagash serie and started to explain us all the work in historical references and the complexity of the history, we allways enjoyed Literature class a lot, when Mrs Delia spoken nobody did noice, and specially that day all the class was very interested.
if you want to know some more about Nippur try http://www.nippurweb.com.ar (is in spanish and some chapters can be dowloaded) by the way what argentinians commics did you read, was them written in Italian?

I guess that the term has evolved since the time my Grand Mother left her old home to imigrate to this country. Just like the language itself. For me, that is a new way of saying "toilet paper", the people that I have known from the old country and those few of us that still know some of the old dialect call it "pape de comido", sorry about the spelling, I have never seen it written.

Pangor

P.S. this thread is way off track.

@ Pangor: don't use "carta da culo" in real life, it's a italian slang phrase, not a dialectal form. I think there is not a dialectal phrase to translate "toilet paper" in the dialect of this zone of Italy. Maybe because the toilet paper was not used here ...

@ Rayera: I know everything about Wood's Nippur, I red the story from the beginning to where Nippur left Lagash after his short reign. My favourite serie is "Gilgamesh" but I like a lot all the south american (mainly Argentinian) production, I've boxes and boxes of comic books in my garage...lol They took a lot of space. Another saga that I liked a lot was Jimenez's "MetaBarons' saga" and I remember the "City" serie, the city where goes all the lost persons... Oh, I just have a lot of comics ...

Talking about sources of inspiration and about politicians I'm wondering what was Salvador Dali's inspiration when he painted "Bulgarian child eating a rat" ( : : : ).
