Post subject: A Big PC Headache
Ok if anyone knows why I am having so much trouble with this PC let him speak now. I have been working on it sense yesterday at 5 in the morning. I have done this and maybe someone can help. Davide knows some of it. Ok here goes.
<br />
<br />
I have a PC with 2 500 Western Digital Hard Drives on the PC set to
<br />
RAID 0. Everything went ok. I had installed the factory CD with
<br />
XP Home Edition at the front of the drives. Then I partitioned the Drives
<br />
to let me have a second OS at the end of them. I installed Windows XP Pro
<br />
with SP2. All was fine until I used the Partition Magic's Boot Magic. Everything looked good
<br />
and I set a default boot for the OS and restarted the PC. Then all I got was
<br />
a black screen. I am sure the boot.ini is screwed up but don't know just how or
<br />
why this happened. A lot of work and hours went into getting this to work and
<br />
I am about to give up. I shouldn't have this much trouble. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/new_cussing.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/focus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/crybaby2.gif" alt="" />

Usually, if you're going to install 2 operating systems, you should better partition the drive before installing them, in any case if now both are installed and you can't boot, there are different scenari: the more optimistic one is that you messed up the MBR (master boot record) with Partition Magic. Insert the XP installation disk, choose the console and write
<br />
<br />
fixmbr
<br />
<br />
It should work for the first OS, if not, I'm sorry but you've to reinstall all from scratch. The boot.ini can be manually edited to boot multiple OS if I'm not wrong, I don't understand why you used PartitionMagic if you were doing the work from scratch.
<br />
<br />
If you had valuable dataon the HD and you won't be able to boot it up your choice is a recovery software

So much for Boot 101. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/redembarrassed.gif" alt="" /> Well I have both Drives with the same XP Pro in them. Now my question is and I am new at this mind you. How or where do I make the Dual boot at the start up without using Boot Magic. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_shifty.gif" alt="" /> In other words I have two of the same OS on two different drives.How do I make a dual boot so I have a choice of what OS I want when the Black screen comes up. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif" alt="" />
<br />
<br />
<br />
If I get that right then all is well.
<br />
<br />
<br />
P.S. No animals where harmed in trying to fix this thing. Only PC. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/redembarrassed.gif" alt="" />

Ok this doesn't mean I fixed the problem that I PMed you. It means I
<br />
got the Master boot back up to let me in the OS. From there
<br />
I went to Control Panel / System / Advanced / Settings / Edit.
<br />
<br />
Word pad brought up the boot. This is what I did to modify it.
<br />
<br />
<br />
[boot loader]
<br />
timeout = 30
<br />
default = multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
<br />
<br />
[operating systems]
<br />
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Hot Wire" /fastdetect
<br />
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Non Internet" /fastdetect
<br />
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Internet" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
<br />
<br />
<br />
From there I clicked ok and my PC has a three drive multi Boot at the start up. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
<br />
<br />
COOL HUH! <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/ayeah.gif" alt="" />
<br />
<br />
But still need help on other thinggy. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/redembarrassed.gif" alt="" /> I PMed you about another software issue. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/connie_ashamed.gif" alt="" />

<br />
<img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif" alt="" /> I've to see if I can make a boot drive with it...
