Post subject: Dangerously cold weather here
Today, Winnipeg was the second coldest spot on Earth.
Key Lake, Saskatchewan was number 1 at -52C (-62F)

Tonight it is expected to drop to -40C (-40F) and with winds of between 15 to 20KM
out of the North, giving a windchill equivalent temperature of -45C -55C (-49F to -67F)

Exposed skin will freeze within 2 minutes.

This is a very dangerous condition and we may break a record tonight for the coldest temperature.
Fortunately, we have one of the most stable power grids on this planet.
If the power were to fail, it would be a catastrophe.

Tomorrow's daytime high is only going to be -32C (-24F) with extreme windchill.
We now have 3 times our normal snowfall for the entire Winter, and Winter is
not even half over. I can almost bet money that our city will be on the world news
in a few months as we may have to battle the flood of the millenium.
In 1997, we had what was called the "flood of the century".
After a bad storm in early April of that year, I could stand on the driveway and touch the shingles on the garage.

It doesn't look like bikini weather to me.
Mic and I will have to curl up together and (ahem)...(cough cough) to stay warm
(Not that I mind or anything... )

Weather Report from Ice Planet Hoth...

10:45PM
Temp -39C (-38F)
Windchill -54C (-66F)

This is insane !
We are the coldest major city in North America as of this moment.
We don't have far to go to break the old record of -41.7C set back in 1966

I went outside to take the garbage and recycleables to the end of the driveway and could not
believe how cold it felt with the slight breeze blowing.
The snow makes a crunchy/squeaking sound when you walk on it, symbolic of very cold
temperatures.

Popsicle Den... signing off...

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Vostok, Antarctica was only -34C today.

10:39PM Hoth weather report...

-39C (-38F) but no windchill because the wind is only 4KM per hour.

Still supposed to get to -40 tonight.

Don't worry Ken, she isn't that cruel or mean.
It is only in fun and I have never spent any time in the "doghouse" as they say.

I am still useful around the house...vacuuming, menial tasks, sex slave, etc...
Ooooops...did I say sex slave ?
Nah, that was Tormentor...

Today here is a beautiful sunny day, yes, it's cold but is pleasant to go out in the fresh air...

Weather report:
+5° C , sun

I'm back home and will go to work only monday. Today program: sleep, small repairs, sleep, clean the house, sleep, out for shopping, sleep, big pizza made by my golden hands (YUMH! SLURP!), and yes it will be an original italian pizza (tm) because I'm in Italy and it couldn't be different. I'll put on the pizza tomatos, original sicilian olives from a friend of mine, peperoni, prosciutto di parma (ham) and cook it at 220° C for 20-25 minutes, then add fresh "mozzarella di bufala" for 2 minutes more.
On the table will be also a good german beer in a glass bottle and gazzosa (you can also mix beer and gazzosa for big subsonic burps).

But don't worry Den, I'll think of you all the day ...

It's 40 below and I don't give a f*ck <----
Got a heater in my truck
And I'm off to the rodeo...

Victoria BC had +10C (50F).
That was a 90 degree difference between us and them.
We can go from cold climates to hot climates without any ill effects.
You, Ozy, and others from warm climates, stepping into our
deep freeze, you could die from the shock to your system.
You would not be able to adjust to the climate for several years
if you moved to where it is cold.

I miss the cold at least there the sun shines. it rains here in Oregon, is always cloudy. course there is the odd day though, the clouds break and it warms right up and is almost like a nice spring day in Calgary.....

All in all its not that bad.....

Apparently it was -43C at 5:00AM this morning with no windchill.
Then it warmed up to -41C at around 8:00AM with a light wind and
the windchill was -52C again.
Clouds, rain and anything else is better than what we have.
However, Ozy can keep the +30 and warmer temps.
I don't like the heat, because here in Summer, we can get
tornados and extremely bad storms as a result.

That about sums it up, Ken.
I think there is a bit of exaggeration there.
Water freezes at 32F no matter where you go.
I have seen that some years ago, but it is still funny.

  at Ken's list.

Quote:

You, Ozy, and others from warm climates, stepping into our
deep freeze, you could die from the shock to your system.

Yeah, don't I know it! A few years back a group of us in the industry took a (business)holiday to Dusseldorf for a trade show. In early Feburary...

It was around 30C on the Gold Coast at the time. About twenty-eight cramped-cattle-class-flying-hours later we were feeling the cold air actually freez our very thoughts before they were even formed

Oh, man, it hurt to breathe! But we kept drinking until we couldn't feel it anymore. We were there a week, loved it, but learned a healthy respect for cold climates!

And developed an unhealty passion fo German Frauleins

Hmmm....

I might be able to use a variation of your quotation to my advantage today when I am asked by "you know who", the question ...

"What ? Are you stupid or something ?"

I can reply with a slight variation in the first person based on a comment above...

"I am feeling the cold air actually freeze my very thoughts before they were even formed..."
and blame it on you Ozy. That way, I'm off the hook !

Why are you Gold Coast guys called "Banana Benders" ?
It can't be good...

Glad to be of service... *Ozy, takes a bow*

About the Banana Benders, most of the state is sub-tropical and perfect for banana plantations, sugar cane and the like. So just a state nickname. Also a bit of a reference to our supposed intilligence level...

Did you hear the one about the Queensland Banana plantation owner? He went broke. He threw out all the bent ones!!

Also because of the sugar cane and the imported pest, the cane toad (an ugly brute brought in to clean up some pesky bugs and now running in amlost plague numbers with no natural predators), in a lot of interstate sports we are called the 'Cane Toads', as opposed to the southern states, the 'Cockroaches'
