Post subject: Eyelashes Please help
Hi all,
<br />
It's the simpleton again.
<br />
Sorry about this, but I yet again need assistance.
<br />
<br />
How does one get the eyelashes looking right?
<br />
<br />
I have gone into the material room, clicked onto the eyelashes and selected new node alongside the transparies plug. Then browsed for the texture and clicked ok. I then set the transparency setting to 1.000 and the falloff to .600. When I render the image, my poor posette has big black marks around her eyes.
<br />
<br />
The thing is that I have used several posette textures in the past and sometimes the eyelashes do work. Is this a problem only with some textures. ie. If the creator of the texture has made a trans. of the eyelashes?
<br />
<br />
Sorry to keep asking basic questions, but I am still a novice at this.
<br />
<br />

You are using poser 5: Anyway, every part of the body texture is defined in an area of the texture map: if you open the texture map you can see the part where is the eyes, the lips, the toenails etc.
<br />
Usually the eyelash is painted only with a compact color, for example black, or no colors at all. The eyelashes have a separated transparency map different from the texture map, the transparency map defines the transparent areas (black) from the concrete one (white) with shades of gray if you want more or less transparency. There are a lot of transparency maps for Posette's eyelashes abd you can use it for every standard Posette. For testing it, erase all the maps for the eyelashes in the material room, choose "black" as the color and add a 2d texture map to the tranparency dials. There you'll chose the transparency map. Set the transparency to 1 with no falloff or other parameters and render the image...

I hope it will be useful and you'll understan my bad broken english <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/crybaby2.gif" alt="" />

Personally I always set the falloff to zero, it tends to sometimes make the transparency look like some form for icky plastic

Thank you Tormentor. I realised that when I looked at your example I noticed that I was missing out on linking the transparieny edge off of the transparency node. This has helped me a lot.
