Post subject: Deviant_Viking May 2004 Artist Of The Month
I want to say thank you Deviant_Viking for the interveiw.
<br />
This is a way for you the people of Posetteforever to get to know some really great and wonderful people out here.Not to mention great artist as well.
<br />
Deviant_Viking
<br />
<br />
1.Tell us a little about yourself...personal background, family, etc. What ever you are comfortable with.
<br />
-My personal background isn't exactly something I like talking about, since it's not a too happy one. It coulda been worse, but it could also have been better.
<br />
All I really have to say is that I grew up in a small place in Norway, with probably the best mother one could ask for.
<br />
Playing with action figures and playing video games were usualy the main attractions most of my life, there wasn't really anything else that interested me.
<br />
When I got older, and everybody started partying, I spent most of my time with my art, which I still do.
<br />
<br />
2.How long have you been working with digital art, 3D and/or Poser?
<br />
-I stumbled over Poser 4 around 4-5 years ago, when it was newly out and instantly fell in love with it.
<br />
I've been working with and learned photoshop alongside of it ever since.
<br />
<br />
3.What got you interested in digital art?
<br />
-I've always been creative, but never did anything with it in my younger age.
<br />
I found 3D really appealing (most likely due to games starting to use 3D in them, as I was an avid gamer), and started looking into various 3D programs.
<br />
The breakthrough came when I found poser, due to it's easy use.
<br />
<br />
4.What excites you about 3D and/or Poser?
<br />
-The ability to create something out of virtually nothing. The ability to create something that invokes feelings in others, making them think.
<br />
To be able to visualise my own ideas, thoughts and feelings into something that can be seen, for better or worse.
<br />
<br />
5.Do you have formal training or are you self taught?
<br />
-When it comes to poser, the majority is self thaught. I started out with the manual to learn the basics, and have learned the rest by experimenting.
<br />
Same with photoshop. Apart from some tutorials here and there, most I've learned by experimenting.
<br />
As of late, I've been attending a one-year 3D class for Maya that's nearing end, which is basically the only formal training I've had when it comes to my art.
<br />
<br />
6.Where do you find your inpiration/ideas?
<br />
-Everywhere. Nowhere. They usualy just pop into my mind, quite often when listening to music.
<br />
Occasionally I might stumble upon another picture, text or similar I want to visualise, but for the majority of the time it's original thoughts.
<br />
<br />
7.What is your preffered environment for creating your art? Surrounding noises, time of day, etc.
<br />
-I'm a big fan of white lights and minimalistic backgrounds. I take a bit of pride in being able to use a plain white background to empathise the feeling in a picture.
<br />
When straying away from that style, I tend to like darkness, shadows and contrasts, pretty much the opposite.
<br />
<br />
8.Do you listen to music while you create? If so what kind or who?
<br />
-When I'm not keeping half an eye on the TV, I pretty much always play music.
<br />
It can be anything from melodic trance, hardcore rock, alternative unknown stuff to classical.
<br />
Music can help in enhancing the mood of a piece. If I'm working on a sad picture, I play sad music. An angry picture, angry music etc.
<br />
<br />
9.What do you consider your artistic strength?
<br />
-I guess the ability to make pieces that goes from making people say 'wow, cool' to ones that stirs feelings deep within them.
<br />
<br />
10.What do you consider your personal strength?
<br />
-That I still can be bothered to carry on with my life.
<br />
<br />
11.Do you consider yourself an artist or a hobbist when it comes to digital art?
<br />
-I consider myself an artist now. It's what I love to do, and prefer to spend my time with.
<br />
<br />
12.Do you have other hobbies or special interests?
<br />
-Outside my art and school/work it's usualy videogames that matters.
<br />
I was an avid gamer before, and I still thoroughly enjoy games.
<br />
<br />
13.What is your proudest artistic achievement?
<br />
-Hard to tell, but I guess it's my second Metallic Angel. She was a labor of love, and I was really impressed and proud of myself when I made that picture.
<br />
<br />
14.What is your proudest personal achievement?
<br />
-I guess it was when I one christmas gave some of my family members a framed poser pic I'd made. It showed them that all the time I spent alone with my computer I didn't just waste away, I was actually doing something important to me.
<br />
<br />
15.Who is your favorite artist?
<br />
-Nobody. I don't have any persons I look up to. That's probably why I manage to keep the majority of my art original.
<br />
<br />
16.What is your favorite artistic style?
<br />
I don't really have a preference, I just do whatever I feel like doing.
<br />
<br />
<br />
Thank you very much and congratulations again to Deviant_Viking for a wonderful interview as Artist Of The Month.
