Post subject: [Tutorial] Head Morphs in Blender
Hello People, here I try to tell you how to get head morphs in blender, you know my english is not that good <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_shifty.gif" alt="" /> so I include a lot of screen captures.
<br />
Please give it a try, blender is a very powerfull free aplication and this new sculpting tool is a real gift for all Poser users, if you are used to other aplications the user interface may be a little problematic, but just open your mind <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/notworthy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/lol.gif" alt="" /> and you'll see it's not that hard.
<br />
I've read this tutorial several times, but if I go on searching for mispels I will never post it <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_doh.gif" alt="" /> so please english speaking staff members if you find something that you think must be corrected please do it :::razz: .
<br />
<br />
The main intention here is encourage the creation of custom morph, it's the best way to add true artistic sence to a character, no mater how simple it's the character will have your own craft, and using a FREE aplication, by now if you wanted to do this you needed to buy in some cases espensive tools, and velieve me as a Zbrush user, you can get the same results in Blender, with even some adventages, like do your morph with the textures on (it may be in Zbrush but by now I didn't find it) or besides the sculp tool you can use the standard modeling tools. (There is a lot, we poser users can use in Blender, we can even do textures like in Deep Paint 3D or Painter 3D)
<br />
<br />
Blender Can be downloaded <a class="post-url" href="http://www.blender.org/" target="_blank">HERE</a>
<br />
<br />
Once I solve some problems with some scrips I'll post the full body morph tutorial.
<br />
<br />
Here I use Poser 5 but the proces is the same for version 4, 6 or 7 (Poser 7 have some diferences in the order of the importing an exporting process)

Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Open Blender, this is what you'll see
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:22 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Move the pointer to the uper edge of the 3D view, you'll se the cursor as an up and down arrow, press Right Mouse Button (RMB), an split line will apair, give it a width of 6 or 7 squares and press Left Mouse Button (LMB)
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:23 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Now you have two 3D windows a big one an a small one, let's tourn the small one into an outliner (scene tree in other aps or hierarchy editor in Poser), LMB in the small icon at the lower left corner of the view and then LMB on outliner
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:25 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
This is what you should have, if you think your outliner is too much small or big just put the pointer over the edge of the two views, press LMB and drag left or right
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:26 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Now again move the pointer to the uper edge of any view and when it become an up and down arron press LMB hold and drag down, this are the Blender Preferences
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:28 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
LMB on View & Contros, here we'll set the view manipulation in a way we, Poser and Bryce and Daz Studio users, are used to, the options to select are under View rotation: select Turntable and Around Active. Now put the Configuration panel in its place in the same way you reveled it
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:30 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
The pink square you see in the midle of the 3D view is a cube seen from the up view, let's delete it: be shure the pinter is inside the 3D view and press the DEL key or pres the x key then confirm the delete
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:32 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
now press the 1 key in the numpad, this will set the 3D view in the front view
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:33 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Go to file menu and click on click on Save Defoult Seting, OK, now we have Blender Configured for a confortable morphing, let's close it and the next time we open Blender will remember our setings. Now let's go to Poser...
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:39 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Let Open poser and load Posette.
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:41 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Tourn off all Inverse kinematic
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:44 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
select a body part open the Joint Editor and Zero figure
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:45 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Be careful about this, Posette load with some translations in the body and the hip, and with some scaling in the forearms, please tourn them to Zero, this aply for any figure you want to morph, just take te time to be sure its morph, translations and scale of all body parts are Zero.
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:47 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Go to File/Export/Wavefront OBJ...
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:48 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
nselect UNIVERSE and then all items and bodyparts in the scene will be unselected now select just the head (it would be a good idea go back to this point after saving the head and do it again selecting one by one all body parts but the fingers and the eyes, or maybe you want to include them in a full body morph but usually they are not used) press click on Ok
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:50 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Here select "Include body part names in poligon groups" and "As morph target (no world transformation)" the first option is very important mainly in full body morphs, finished in Poser lets go back to Blender
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:52 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Go to File/Import/Wavefront(.obj)...
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:54 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Navegate to the directory where you saved your head obj, select it then click on Import a Wavefront OBJ
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:56 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Unselect everything but Morph Target and change Clamp Scale to 0 (zero) click on OK
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:57 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
As you can see the head is too much small to work with it, so lets see how to navegate in Blender 3D space:
<br />
let's see the basics needed (allways with the pointer inside the 3D window:
<br />
ZOOM: Spin the midle wheel to zoom in and out (or hold CTRL key hold Midle mouse button (MMB) and mope up and down)
<br />
ROTATE: Hold MMB and drag arround.
<br />
PAN: Hold Shift hold MMB and drag.
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 05:59 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Using this controls get as closer as posible to the face, for a more confortable view go to view in the 3D view options select view properties... change the Lens: to 120 and close this small window; now this would be a good idea to save this scene for further uses, just go to file/Save as... (or press F2 key) and save this scene.
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:06 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Select the head in the Outliner tree, if it does not select, just select the lamp and then the head (this is a bug of the last version I think) go to the mode menu and select Sculpt Mode) click on Set smooth in the Link & Materials Panel to see the head in smooth form
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:08 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Click in the Sculpt Panel and now we are ready to Morph!
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:12 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
I won't say what is self explained in the sculpt panel, just keep the pointer some second over a button and you'll get a short and clear help, just some tips: in most cases you'll want to work with symmetry on on the X axis and disable the Transform manipulator.
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:14 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Once your morph is finished then let's save it: go to File/Export/Wavefront(obj)...
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:15 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Save it to a forlder you will remembler, give it a name and click in Export Wavefront OBJ
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:16 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
In the options unselect everything but "Selection Only", "Rotate X90" and "Morph Target" and then OK, Finished in Blender lets go back to poser
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:18 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Back in Poser I will aply the morph to Nea, because is a Posette based character, load her, select the head and go to the Properties Tab in the Parameter window and select Add Morph Targets
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:19 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Use the locate button to search for you saved Blender morph, in Label give the name of your morph then click OK
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:20 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Now your morph have a dial in the head parameters, just tourn it to 1 and there you have your own custom morph <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/thumb.gif" alt="" />
rayera [ Sunday, 29 April 2007, 06:23 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Add Some texture a nice skin shading and render, remember that Posette likes a lot the Smooth Poligons options in the render options
<br />
<br />
Please give it a try, it deserve it, and ask any question you have I'll try to help. <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/lol.gif" alt="" />

<br />
<br />
btw, have you changed something in your signature's logo ? I can't see it but a "no thumbnail" picture that PF put there. I checked the file directly on your site and it's working <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif" alt="" />

Blender is a real nice program, but I need a lot more practice ... <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/smile.gif" alt="" />
<br />
About my signature, it works for me, but I remember having had the effect you're describing some weeks ago <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif" alt="" />
<br />
Maybe the board gets a time out from time to time because my little place <a class="post-url" href="http://www.ahjah.de" target="_blank">http://www.ahjah.de</a> don't have much traffic.
<br />
So DNS resolving can take a little longer from the USA to my place in Germany (am I right, Posetteforever is hosted on an US server?)

Post subject: Re: Head Morphs in Blender
Yes it is, I think you're right, even if I'm not sure if the final user download the picture from your site or from Posetteforever, in the last case the one having the problem it's me but I can download it from your site, it looks to me as an anti-leeching thing, we'll see what will happen in the next days <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/smile.gif" alt="" /> (and as usual we're derailing from the topic <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/icon_redface.gif" alt="" /> )...

I just had the "No Thumbnail" thumbnail (?), too... <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_shifty.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif" alt="" />
<br />
There should not be any anti leeching on my place. It's no free space, I'm paying for it.
<br />
I don't think this is the problem, because in this case direct typing into the browser's adress bar wouldn't work, too. But this works fine...

Hi all, hi rayera!
<br />
I have upgraded to blender 2.44 and to Python 2.5.
<br />
Morphing a single bodypart, as i.e. the head works amazing.
<br />
The sculpting tools work fast and clean and are matching exactly my needs. Your tutorial is a big help.
<br />
But now I'm stuck. How can I import and export a whole figure obj without loosing the grouping?
<br />
I've tried several combinations in the import/export options, but none of them work <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
<br />
I need a second tutorial for creating whole body morphs, rayera <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_pray.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_pray.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_pray.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/lol.gif" alt="" />

Thanks ahjah, that was my intention, now I'll work in the full body tutorial, the problem is that I want to post some script with the tutorial and I'm not shure if I can, I e-mailed the autor and I'm waiting an answer, but anyway if I don't get an aswer I'll look for another way to do the same as easy as posible; as you can see I'm good looking for techniques and way of doing things but not the things itself, the true is I'm not that good doing morphs that's why I really like to share what I found out with people that use it in such a great way <img src="https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/thumb.gif" alt="" />
