In the newsgroups and computer based forums, there are a lot of people who are anti-freesoftware who spread that view of free software and it's creators.  As someone who had written by share of it, mostly by patching problems and sending the patched back to the official developers and maintainers of various packages.  I can assure you that at least one writer of such software is not a commie.
