Subject: The search continues...
Hey there;

Once again I seem to want something that is not available to Poser users; this time, a Porsche 911 GT2 (993) 1996 model. I've looked high & low for this car, and have seen only 2 that are available; one is a .max file (looks very well made, and high poly), and the other (low poly, game quality) is on a site that requires either paid membership, or uploading of a car model, to get a car model.

So; I decided to ask here, and see if anyone has seen any others that I have missed.

Oops, in the description, I said two things...; the other is a 1967 -1972 Cadillac ElDorado. I haven't seen any of this car anywhere (...not even at TurboSquid, not that I'd pay their prices for it if I did...)

So, if anyone has seen, heard or built one of these Please, Please, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks; we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming....

Tomorrow, I'll make a deep search, BTW the 911 look "nearly" all the same, maybe with another model and a bit of arrangments, you can make it... I was also searching for an AE86 (Toyota Trueno) . Some times ago I found one and converted it from a video game format, there is one also , but it is for sale and for a lot of money :roll: ... It's a pretty populare model due to the "Initial D" manga, but no luck :dontknow:

I'll try to help you Whazizname...

Tormie, you are correct, the 911 models of that year are very similar; the problem part is the air intakes on the spoiler struts of the 993. I do have a 911 turbo from about that time; but the spoiler, rear tires, and rear fenders are very different. {I've taken to calling the GT2 993 "Fat Butt" because of this. :D }

I certainly appreciate any info your deep search can turn up. I'll also keep my eyes open for a higher poly Trueno {They were called Corollas here in the US.}

I emailed the creator of the .max 993 (before I started this thread), and asked if it was available in 3ds, or obj formats. This morning they sent me a copy in both formats. :yeah:

So, Now I've got to find some time to try them out; so I can let the creator know how the converted exports work (They weren't sure how well the conversions would work.) If they work well, I'll ask the creator if they can be a freebie for all of the auto fans in Poserdom.

I spent about two hours this morning getting the 911 993 GT2 to work as a Poser prop. I decided it make a good Work In Progress thread; so I'm going to post a few images here.

Both the 3ds & obj versions loaded into Carrara 2 without problems; but both versions needed tweaking to work right in Poser 5.

I spent 1 half hour in Carrara assigning materials to the obj version, then exported as obj. The model now had separate material zones; but needed to have the zone groups modified, and some of the normals needed to be reversed. Poser's "grouping tool" is a bit of a pain; but since I still use P5, I really didn't have any other option to get the normals facing forward. (I considered asking someone here with P6 or P7 to flip normals for me; but decided that I could use the practice, since I hadn't done it in a while.)

After normal reversing, and material reassisgning; I added a few simple colors to the zones, and did a test render. The model now works as a prop in Poser without trouble. I hope to feel inspired enough to UV map it (So that I can add realism to the taillights, and Porsche logo), and perhaps run it though the setup room, and make it into a figure (so the doors & wheels will be posable); but that will have to wait for another day.
