Subject: Free model conversion program
Here is a link to a free program some may already know about, or some may find useful. Called PoseRay, it is a model conversion program which I believe was developed primarily for conversion of models to Moray scenes. However, it will also import several major formats and output obj and mtl files. It will also support Poser and DAZ Studio scenes.

Imports Wavefront obj and mtl, 3DS, LWO, DXF, POV,INC VRML, RAW
Exports POV, Moray, Wavefront obj and MTL

Many other features you may find useful.

Thank you, I have a copy of PosRay for some time for conversion from Poser (Wavefront OBJ) into POV-Ray scene files. But it is an older version without all the support for all of those formats that you mentioned. I will be donwloading a new copy today. ;-)

Hi all!
I have to come back to say, this proggy is a real gem :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
kind of a swiss knife for meshes, and it works pretty good even on my old machine

really a "must have"!

Yes, I've been allways using it but PovRay was too much slow in my old PC to render a complex scene but I think deserve the time, the refraction have bryce quality!!!, the true is its a gem as ahjah say, the ability to render Poser and DazStudio in a very hi quality renderer as Povray is wonderful :thumb:

Thanks, this is an improvment on the half dozen apps I was using to do he same thing.

There are some situations where it gets confused with texture map assignements. I am trying to determine the reason, if I can determine why and how to prevent or avoid the problem; I will post it here.

I saw this problem today, or something similar. I exported my model in dxf from my cad program to Poseray, converted to obj and into Poser. It combined several layers into one color and object. Exported as a 3ds file, into Poseray for conversion and I got more material options and the glass didn't look like the window frame.

Perhaps part of the issue is where the original is coming from. :mmmh:

For me it was scenes exported from Poser 5 as Wavefront OBJ + MTL files. For simple scenes it workds fine. For more complex ones, it applies the wrong map to the wrong material zones. or it duplicates the same texture map to multiples figures. For example, I wanted to render "George and Weena" with it and all thress characters got the texture of the morlock applies strangly, the clothing and the scenery was hopelessly confused. It happened again with "Behind You". The time the scenery was fine, butboth ladies got the skin and clothing textures of Rogue applies to them and they both got Rayiah's hair texture. For "Young Antony and Cleopactra" most of it worked, except his armor got the wrong texture and his skin was pure white.

I solved my problem by going back into TurboCad and reassinging layers and colors. I didn't make any changes is PoseRay, just converted to obj. I was then able to identify the colors in Poser to assign materials.

A different issue to be sure, but information shared allows others to figure these things out.

On my first model conversion (a 3ds tommygun), I remapped the UV's and assigned the material textures in Poseray. That time it worked fine, but there were only two material zones.

It does seem to have more prolems as the scenes get more complex. For simple scenes, like for a portrait with a backdrop and ground it has worked as expected for me.
